I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We had a wonderful Christmas and feel very blessed to be surrounded by such awesome family and friends.
We are back at home in time for the New Year’s weekend. We will need to child proof the house this weekend as baby D has started to crawl as of this past week.
Dana and I look forward to the New Year. For the last two years, we have participated in our churches 21 days of prayer and fasting and can’t wait for to do it again for the third straight year. Fasting for us means eating fruits and vegetables only (called the Daniel fast from the book of Daniel.) Our fast will start on January 10th and run through January 30. The schedule always works out to begin after the college football BCS games and conclude by the Super Bowl (our church leaders are huge football fans.)
In addition to the church fast, I had a crazy idea. Dana and I are going to try to fast spending for the month of January. No spending, except for our monthly bills and gas for the cars. Of course, we may need to spend money on baby food/diapers, but not if we can help it. We will try to stock up a month’s worth of baby supplies for the 31 days of our spending fast.
If we need to spend money, like on fruits and veggies at the flea market (this is where we typically shop for fruits and veggies during the fast…it’s a little out of the way, but it’s soooo cheap) we will have to sell something on ebay or craigslist and use the proceeds to pay for the food. This weekend, we will need to purge our house and try to find stuff to sell.
I brought this idea up to Dana earlier this month and she didn’t really say anything. She has learned that when I present a crazy idea to her, that it’s best to ignore it and pray that I forget about it. Dana knows that shutting it down immediately will only encourage me to pursue the crazy idea even more. So, when I re-presented this idea over Christmas, she was surprised to that I remembered, but reluctantly decided to go along with it.
Over the month of January, we will keep you posted on how this month goes. I would encourage you try on your own to do some sort of fast in January. Maybe it’s cutting out your dining, shopping, or your entire spending. Whatever it is, your spending fast will propel you through whatever JAM step you are trying to complete.
